Hence, a new arm is needed, I would think, and, I'm wondering if anyone has a solution or this. The steps are the exact ones pictured in the blog. Lastly, thank you for the blog. It is terrific. Unfortunately, I had this one problem. ???? Most of the time was spent getting the remainder of the rivet out of the hole they were in. I did all my repair from a ladder. Everything was easy including attaching the spring then pull the arm down to connect to the step. I left the step folded.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00105265541660063172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8180601.post-69589227209853173112016-12-06T13:24:31.329-05:002016-12-06T13:24:31.329-05:00I think we have the same problem with our HE3t was...I think we have the same problem with our HE3t washer. What do you think of inserting a J-Hook or a small eyebolt into the arm hole, to eliminate the need to twist the spring while stretching it?Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13158398425690382976noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8180601.post-44254313069766124552016-08-19T12:50:53.847-04:002016-08-19T12:50:53.847-04:00Hey all- sorry for the (very) delayed comment post...Hey all- sorry for the (very) delayed comment postings. My variation: I hacksawed the hinge rivet between the rivet and the mounting plate (but did have to drill/punch the rivet from the removed hinge--a job of two minutes), and replaced it with the suggested three inch lag bolt. I did not not have to remove the mounting plate. Less than two dollars for the bolt and two washers, and less than 30 minutes labor. Works like a champ.Doug Kelleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16318998176481085851noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8180601.post-31397188395590321112016-07-15T14:30:59.564-04:002016-07-15T14:30:59.564-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Doug Kelleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16318998176481085851noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8180601.post-80588041302505659092016-07-12T02:13:12.172-04:002016-07-12T02:13:12.172-04:00Thanks for sharing the post.. parents are worlds b...Thanks for sharing the post.. parents are worlds best person in each lives of individual..they need or must succeed to sustain needs of the family.
Garage Door Panel Repair
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06170494631403248581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8180601.post-32127838824676892082016-06-24T13:03:59.628-04:002016-06-24T13:03:59.628-04:00Hi! Every time I go up, I think about one of those springs letting go and taking half my head off!!
I used the 3/8 x 2 1/2 lag bolt for the hinge pin. Used 1/4 x 3 lags for the four corners of the plate.
Did the entire job by myself without going up in the attic! Let the hinge go on the side of the stairs as instructed. Finished all of the work on one side and the used a rope through the hole on the bracket to pull it back down. Since the other side was still connected, the stairs didn't require someone to hold them up. They stayed approximately 20% open. Grabbed the hinged bracket by hand once it was low enough, pulled the rope out, pushed the end onto the bolt and slipped on the washer and lock nut!
Total job took two hours including replacing missing step hardware and putting in the safety wire.
Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02186140807247166247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8180601.post-82872148577434863632016-05-29T18:35:44.903-04:002016-05-29T18:35:44.903-04:00Thank you for this explicit repair. 7 years after ...Thank you for this explicit repair. 7 years after your post, I used your ideas and fixed my attic stairs following your steps. I was able to repair mine in a much similar fashion however one thing I noticed is that the fixed portion of the spring arm has two rivets that are slightly loose. This is causing the spring arm to be leaning back in towards the stairs but not nearly as bad as it was before the repair. Might consider drilling them out and using bolts and locking nuts in the future.
